A Guide to Lombok Diving

Jan 11 , 2012

Lombok is the perfect place to do some diving. With its great size, there are a lot of great diving spots to choose from. The main activity Lombok is known for is diving, so when visiting Lombok make sure to explore all it has to offer. Here are the top places to dive when visiting Lombok.

Sekong: This small tropical area is located in the southern region of Lombok. Like many other spots on the south of Lombok, it offers great places to scuba dive. Dive down into the colorful reefs underneath where there is lots of macro life that can be found. The atmosphere is very relaxing in Sekong and along this reef.

Kuta Bay: The diving in this area is perfect for people of all skill levels. It is best to dive here during the rainy season from November until April. During the dry season from July through October, there are a lot of waves and some wind to go with it. Surfers take over the area at that point.

Gili Trawangan: This diving is relatively easy even for beginners and is filled with reef fish. It is one of the more colorful areas for diving in Lombok with very soft corals. Look out for manta rays in this diving area as well as garden eels. A few different species of sharks can also be found at the right time.

Belongas Bay: Located in the middle of nowhere, this bay is a little harder for tourists to locate. It is also known for very challenging diving, particularly from July through October in the dry season. This area is clearly for the experienced diver, but can be very rewarding for those who attempt it successfully.

Gili Meno: Gilo Meno is known for its reef wall that is about 300 meters long and 18 meters deep. It is covered with soft corals and gorgonians. Look for green turtles as they are all over the area. This is the perfect place for a night dive where some great underwater canyons can be explored.

Gili Air: This area is composed of a beautiful wall with a coral block. The coral wall is covered with shrimp and surrounded by large schools of fish. The maximum depth of the wall is 32 meters. After exploring the wall, move around the corner to a sandy area where some unique animals like ghostpipefish reside.
